There is nothing better than strolling through the woods and taking in the beauty of nature! However, what if you suddenly run into a plane? We bet you would be surprised and probably come to the conclusion that there was a plane crash. Perhaps you would even wonder if you found an aircraft junkyard. However, it means a completely different thing if you are in Hillsboro, Oregon. It means you just found yourself in Bruce Campbell’s front yard.
All right, we know that despite everything, he cannot possibly be the first man to have ever created an unusual home. There are plenty of people from different parts of the world who fashioned their homes from some pretty crazy stuff. We already know of many homes built with cars and boats, but what other unconventional living quarters are out there?
In some cultures, it is tradition to craft shelters both in and within trees. Other people use materials such as bricks, stone, mud, and straw. How did Bruce Campbell ever come up with the idea to use a real airplane? We will soon find out his motivations for the odd decision.
As expected, it is not an easy task to convert an airplane into a livable home. Bruce Campbell explained that it was not smooth-sailing due to the many obstacles he encountered. Of course, there are the laws to consider in addition to the process of transporting that massive aircraft to his neck of the woods. Moreover, he had to transform the interior of a Boeing 727 into a place that would accommodate his daily needs. Planes were simply not designed to house a human being. There are zero doubts in our mind that it is hard to designate a kitchen, bedroom, and living room in such a space. However, Bruce Campbell is a smart, resourceful man, and he was able to make it work.
He’s a former electrical engineer who has since gone into retirement. Bruce is an inventive person who enjoys converting old planes into upcycled works of art. He believes that planes can be used for more than their intended purpose. With the use of his excellent imagination, he saved old airplanes from scrap metal hell after buying a parcel of land and turned the vehicles into one of the most original homes on the planet. Bruce Campbell might be 64 years old by now but he has never lost either his vision or his creativity. When he was still a young fellow in his 20s, he bought a 10-acre property nestled deep in the woods of Hillsboro, Oregon. The piece of land ended up setting him back by $23,000 and he already knew what he wanted to do with it.
