Barbie Influence
For a huge chunk of her life, Dolly aspired to be as beautiful as Barbie. This is partly due to the fact that she grew up in a low-income household. She wanted to be a beautiful woman her whole life, and this came through in her song “Backwards Barbie.” Here is an excerpt from the song: “I wanted to be pretty more than anything in the world, like Barbie. From rags to wishes in my dreams I could have it all. I’m just a backwoods Barbie, too much makeup, too much hair. Don’t be fooled by thinkin’ that the goods are not there.”
