Dramatically Different Pilot
The initial pilot was drastically different from what fans know as Gilligan’s Island today. First of all, they had totally different characters. As far as the actresses go, they played a high school teacher and secretaries. So, the network realized that with all the dramatic differences, the pilot would really confuse fans. Thus, they only re-broadcasted it years after when they believed audiences could cope with the differences. That wasn’t until 1992!

Two Cartoons
One way that shows stayed relevant back in the 60’s or 70’s was to adapt their shows into cartoons and even cartoon spinoffs. Maybe you remember Gilligan’s Island jumped on the bandwagon too. The show made two cartoons, one being the classic Gilligan’s Island and the other in outer space called Gilligan’s Planet.
