Annette O’Toole wasn’t always Martha Kent. I know, right? The unaired pilot of Smallville had the actress Cynthia Ettinger \as Clark Kent’s mother. After studio executives screened the pilot, they chose to redo Ettinger’s scenes, but with O’Toole. “They told me I was too young,” Ettinger said. “I had a lot of conflicting directions on the show and although I loved the story line, the people and the character… they just did not know how to use me or what to do with the character.”
