Geena Davis was a hot commodity in the 1980s. It appeared that she could do no wrong when Beetlejuice and then Thelma and Louise catapulted her to box-office superstardom. You couldn’t turn around in a supermarket in the 1990s without seeing Davis and her ex-husband Jeff Goldblum on a magazine cover. Their remake of the horror classic The Fly is revolting. Renny Harlin’s flop Cutthroat Island, directed by her now ex-husband, was the only real blemish on the ointment. They made the movie specifically to help Geena launch her career. It was a flop, and she was on the verge of drowning as a result.
