After the hype that engulfed the family calmed down, the McCaugheys decided to keep their personal lives as private as possible. the only time they would make a public appearance was each year, for the babies’ birthdays. Their decision was aided by the Dionne quintuplets who warned them about being overexposed to the public.

The Dionne quintuplets were born in Ontario, Canada in 1934 to Elzire Dionne. They were brought up in an unsavory environment, being used as a ‘circus-like’ attraction for tourists. They were quick to warn the parents of the septuplets of the harm that too much exposure could cause.
