Nothing in the world could have prepared Celine Dion for the news she received in 1999. Rene, her beloved husband, was unexpectedly diagnosed with throat cancer. His doctors told him he would soon lose all his basic living abilities and should prepare for death. Celine dropped everything, including her career, to be his primary caregiver. Obviously, this put some strain on their relationship, but Celine went above and beyond to do everything she could so her husband would live a comfortable life before he died.

Celine’s Mom Hated Her Relationship
Celine’s mother has been vocally against her relationship with Rene since it began. Celine said in an interview, “When I told her I had some really strong feelings for Rene she tried everything to kill him and make me snap out of it… I was very frustrated and mad at first, but she tried to make me understand that this man tried marriage twice before – he has three children, he’s not responsible, ‘I want the perfect Prince Charming for you’.”
