Pimp My Ride, an MTV reality show, was one of the most popular at the time. Rapper Xzibit would show up at people’s homes and transform their old cars completely. The car makeovers were strictly cosmetic and only for the cameras. Someone on the show mentioned that their car was barely running when they returned it. Furthermore, the repair of these vehicles could take up to six months.

Another popular MTV show was Cribs. Celebrities would display their opulent homes in front of a live audience on this show. Several well-known celebrities appeared on the show during its 13-year run. On the other hand, MTV was forced to defend itself after a woman sued, alleging that the network misrepresented her rented home as rapper Ja Rules’ crib.
