Chaka Khan

There is no way you can talk about funk and disco without mentioning Chaka Khan. Did you know that Yvette Marie Stevens is her real name? She has a career that has spanned around five decades. In the beginning, she was the lead singer of a punk band called Rufus. However, she has seen a lot of success on her own. Fun fact, she made history as the first R&B singer to collaborate with a rapper when she worked on “I Fell For You.” She is a critical and commercial hit with more than 70 million record sales.

Dusty Springfield

A British musician, Dusty Springfield, also found plenty of success across the pond. In the United States, she is best known for soul hits such as “Son of Preacher Man” and “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself.” Aside from that, she also made quite the splash once the Swinging Sixties rolled in. We also loved how she would wear evening gowns for her performances. For five years, she had cancer. Sadly, she lost the fight in 1999. We are glad that her musical legacy continues to live on.
