The Most Happening Venue In All Of NY
Now, you can see why we say that Studio 54 was once the most happening venue in all of New York. Michael Jackson himself stated that the club was the place to go to dance and “be free”. It was a safe haven for many celebrities, a chance to let loose and be themselves without worrying about the spotlight, paparazzi, and fans. Mother and daughter duo Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow even made an appearance at Studio 54 for the 4th Annual New York Caberet Benefit for the Williamstown Theater Festival.

Unfortunately, the club closed its doors as quickly as it opened back in 1977. The IRS went over the club in search of the club owners, Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, in December 1978. During an interview on CBS, Rubell described that fateful day to be “…probably the worst, one of the worst days of my life.”
