A rumor that seemed to spread like wildfire was that the producer wanted Alan Young to play Gilligan. Actor Alan Young is most famous for playing Wilbur Post on the show Mister Ed. Years later, Sherwood Schwartz cleared up any confusion. Schwartz insisted he had no clue where that came from since he never considered Alan Young at all.
