More on actor Jim Backus. Truth is, he couldn’t be more different than his on-screen character, big spending, millionaire Howell. In real life, he was the total opposite. All those that worked with him knew his notorious frugal ways. Lots of stories circulated about meal breaks. Apparently, most times Backus often ‘forgot’ his wallet. Thus, forcing his costars to foot the bill for him. Actually, his did this so frequently the whole Gilligan’s Island crew teased him about the awful habit.

Next up, we’re going to give you a bit more on what Tina Louise was really like on the set. So, while filming she often had the entire crew and cast make exceptions for her. Louise was not exactly prepared for the reality of her role on Gilligan’s Island. Before accepting the role, her agent represented it to her as a film star stuck on an island. Thus, she wrongly assumed that the whole show would revolve around her character’s exploits.
