Each one of the Gilligan’s Island characters, well except the goofy Gilligan, stood for a specific segment in American society. That’s the reason they would refer to each by their job titles and not always by their real names. Thus, it became easier to see how each character represented that entire segment of American society.
Dawn Wells’ Memoir
Since the world knows actress Dawn Wells as Mary Ann of Gilligan’s Island, she decided to capitalize on that fame for her memoir. Therefore, her memoir was titled, What Would Mary Ann Do? for her character. In fact, she wrote it from her character’s perspective. Yes, that’s right it gives advice based on Mary Ann’s star-eyed Kansas native point of view about troubles in modern society.
