Just as he was approaching, he realized this moose’s mother might be lingering close by. As many know, mothers in the wild get very protective when they think their young may be threatened. In those circumstances they can seriously harm a person in order to protect their baby. Therefore, Plucas took time to scan the area for the mother before confirming they were alone.

Assessing The Situation
Without much knowledge about moose, Plucas was still able to see that the calf was really young. He guessed she was probably only two weeks old or not much older. The poor calf appeared distressed, and that’s what led Plucas to infer what had happened to the baby Moose.
