Before the issue was cleared up, Béla Károlyi was undeniably furious. He believed that there was a mistake or a penalty he failed to notice. He explained, “I said ‘holy cow, they deducted something over here, there is a deduction, there is a penalty,’ I was on my way to the jury, then I heard, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, first time in the history of the sport, a perfect 10 in the Olympic Games.’”
