Sims was vigilant in placing those concrete layers with his friends and securing the rebar inside the hatch. They had to be confident that when anyone went down there, the foundation would not collapse. To reinforce the concrete, they continued to pour new batches. John could imagine only what would wait inside the hatch during the whole process. He never thought anything was going to work against him.

The inevitable Arizona heat was one factor that slowed the team’s development. Worse, that nobody could tell if the heat of the enigmatic hatch would impact anything inside. The team set up a tent over the entire project to secure itself and everything inside the hole. They also built a Sonotube cardboard frame around the entrance for anything to be compromised during their work. After they were done with the cement, it looked like they were finally ready to make their descent. However, they were still missing one thing. Once the cement was finished, it seemed as if they were about to descend at last. Yet one thing was still missing.
