Lilibet
We now know that some people refer to the Queen as “Gan-Gan” and “Cabbage,” but did you know that she came up with one for herself? She had a problem pronouncing her name, so she called herself “Lilibet” instead! The trend became popular with her friends and family, who would soon refer to her by that nickname.
Plenty Nicknames
Now that we’re talking about nicknames, here’s one that is a little less endearing: Elizabeth’s uncle, the Duke of Windsor, once referred to her as “Shirley Temple” and her mother as “Cookie.” The former was speculated to be because of her curls, while the latter was a reference to his belief that the Queen Mother looked like a cook.
