She decided it was time to do something else. She wanted to let McKenna know that she was already on campus in a different way than she originally planned. Deanna snapped a selfie as she laid down on her daughter’s bed. She knew this would shock her daughter, who still had no idea that her mother was on campus.

“I was just standing there thinking wow, she really cleaned up a lot. And oh no, I couldn’t just do that or sit on a chair or wait,” Deanna said. “I just hopped on the bed [and] laid down.” After several minutes, Pilling decided to take a selfie while making herself comfortable and send it to McKenna as a joke. She attached the caption, ‘Look where I am! Surprise!”
