Joe Strummer is an influential punk rock figure. He is the founder of the band The Clash, which was inducted into the Rock Hall in 2003. The band’s second album was #2 on the UK charts, and they were successful with their third and fourth US albums, becoming platinum-certified. Strummer collaborated with such bands as The Mescaleros, Pogues, Latino Rockabilly, 101ers, and more. He also had a solo career, wrote television and film scores, made radio plays, and became a major performer for an activist organization, Rock Against Racism.

Patti Smith is a songwriter, poet, and singer, and her LP Horses had a huge impact on the punk rock movement of the 1970s. She was known for her work as a punk poet, uniting poetry and punk music. She also wrote and performed the song “Because of the Night” with Bruce Springsteen. She is also an accomplished writer and won the National Book Award for her memoir, Only Kids.
