Horribly Racist Prank
In July 2013, disaster struck when Asian Airlines flight 214 crash-landed at San Francisco International Airport. In the incident, 187 people were injured and three passengers were killed. The local news station, KTVU, was covering the event live when the “names” of four dead captains were confirmed. As it turns out, an intern at the National Transportation Safety Board incorrectly confirmed the offensive names to a KTVU staff member and the list made it to the anchor. Before he noticed anything amiss, the anchor read the names out on air. Naturally, the network apologized for the incident and the ones involved were fired.
Extreme Reporting
Lee Valsvik was reporting live for NBS from Minneapolis sports bar Union Bar & Grill when the segment suddenly took a violent turn. Her cameraman thought it would be funny to tackle the reporter from the back for some reason. He slammed into her and she went flying onto a table nearby, knocking off glasses and plates and knocking a chair over. The reporter was a good sport, shouting “I’m ok!” in the background. The station confirmed she wasn’t hurt from the incident.
