When Night Came
Many of the locals returned to town to look for help. The evening wore off, and they noticed that the calf stopped moving. It was quiet at the bottom of the ditch as if it were simply waiting for the end to come. It was dark by then, but the other elephants and some locals stuck around. Everyone wanted to ensure that the baby could get out of there without a problem.

The locals jumped in joy when they saw cars from afar. Even the adult elephants seemed to figure out that help was coming. After what felt like an eternity, a rescue team arrived at last. The locals gave way, but the other elephants seemed agitated. They did not show violent behavior, however. It felt like both animals and humans reached an understanding in the end.
