Steven had tried to find a job but had been unsuccessful. There were few work opportunities in such a distant place, and he could never generate enough money to live alone. He despised having to rely on his parents for assistance, but without even a car, he was unable to travel further in search of work. He was about to lose hope until his luck finally flipped around.

Steven’s parents couldn’t help with much of the work at Elly’s house, but he was fit and strong enough to finish it. He started chipping in to help Elly in any way he could when he had free time. Elly tried to pay him, but Steven always refused. He felt he owed her something. After all, they’d run into one other in a terrible scenario.
