Mild Success
Karen and Richard were able to release their first album in 1969. However, it did not perform well during its initial run as it was heavily criticized and only had 18,000 sales. Luckily, A&M Records decided to support the pair and even launched a rebranding to cater to the international market. This would prove to be a great move as “Ticket to Ride” ended up selling 250,000 copies.
Unique Sound
It was clear that the music made by the Carpenters were different from the other songs on the charts. Some of their musical influences were The Beach Boys and The Mammas and The Papas. Of course, they did not fail to infuse their own sound into it. The siblings kept making more music and it was only a matter of time before people were able to appreciate their talent.
