Duo
In 1967, Wes Jacobs decided to grab the opportunity to play for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Left on their own, Karen and Richard decided to play as a duo and called themselves the “Carpenters”. This was also the same period that they appeared in “Your American College Show”. They recorded more demos and sent their outputs to A&M Records. The label was intrigued by the unique music they produced and signed them in 1969.
Freedom
It is undeniable that A&M gave them many opportunities, but did you know that they were given a lot of artistic freedom? The pair was allowed to write their own lyrics and make their own music. This condition especially excited Richard because he was the one who did most of the composition. They were able to create an album soon enough.
